September 25 to 27, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Li Guangxian and parties were invited on behalf of our school to participate in the first Conference on Science and Technology of Guangdong Province. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Wang Yang, Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Ministry of Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang, Vice Minister of Education Li Weihong, attended and were speakers at the meeting. "Three-dimensional LCD TV" a co-operation between our University and Guangdong province and other provincial and ministerial research projects were being displayed in the conference.
During the meeting, the executive vice president Guang-Xian Li and his parties visited China Petroleum Bio-Energy Company Limited‘s Jatropha Plantation in Meizhou Guangdong Province. This plantation is established under the guidance of Professor Chen Fang and his research group from our University’s College of Life Science. During the visit Professor Li, on behalf of our school, had signed the agreement for the establishment of “International Jatropha Research and Development Center”. Under the agreement, China Petroleum Bio-Energy Company Limited will invest a total of 125,000,000 Yuan for the project, including 60,000,000 Yuan for the construction of research and development center, equipment expenses 35,000,000 Yuan and three-year research funding of 30,000,000 Yuan, details of the cooperation and implementation will be negotiated further by the two parties. China Petroleum Bio-Energy Company Limited expects with the full support of Sichuan University will establish a world-class international research development center, focusing in the integrated of Jatropha curcas in bio-energy research and development as well as the development of high-quality raw material, and oil extraction and utilization methods. The research center will become the research and development, personnel training, academic exchanges and international cooperation platform for Jatropha curcas.
During the meeting, Guang-Xian Li and his parties also carried out meeting with the executive vice president of the Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau Secretary-Pei Yue on how to further the cooperation between our University and the city of Dongguan in scientific and technological collaborations and exchanges. Invited by the company, the executive vice president of the Guang-Xian Li and his parties also visited one of the country's largest manufacturer of signal transmission cable in Guangdong, Asian Electronics Co., Ltd. The two sides exchanged views and researched preliminary intent on rubber modified cables and a new generation of radiation broadband cable transmission cooperation.
